If
you enjoy helping children grow and learn
and desire a career that offers tremendous
flexibility, a career in child care could be
for you.
Child care workers nurture and care for
children in their infant, toddler and
preschool years and also provide before- and
after-school care to school age children
whose parents work. In addition to providing
for children's basic needs, child care
workers organize activities that stimulate
children’s physical, emotional,
intellectual, and social growth. They help
children explore individual interests,
develop talents and independence, build
self-esteem, and learn how to get along with
others.
There are
four general types of child care workers:
private child care providers, home day care
providers, day care center workers, and
preschool teachers. Private child care
providers work in the child's home and are
responsible for the children in a single
family. Home day care providers work out of
their own home and often are responsible for
several children. Day care center workers work
in a day care facility, while preschool
teachers work in a similar setting but are
primarily focused on the education of
children.
A career in
child care offers a variety of
opportunities, including owning your own
business. And, as more and
more parents work during a child's early
years, the demand for qualified child care
providers continues to grow.
It's the perfect time to get
started training for your next career.
